Tell policymakers the Newberg Pool should be safely shared

December 15, 2021 - Boating community, take action! Unfortunately we’re hearing Oregon legislators plan to introduce another bill in January 2022 that would significantly limit towed water sports in the Newberg Pool.

Sign the Oregon Families for Boating petition today, asking local lawmakers to support Oregon families and small businesses by opposing unnecessary overregulation of the Willamette River. Tell legislators the Newberg Pool should be safely shared. To sign the petition today click here.

Your name will be added to the list of signers, and a message will be sent to the State Senator and State Representative who represent you.

Here’s what we’re telling local lawmakers:

Recreational boating on the Willamette River provides significant social and economic benefits to our community. Hundreds of local families safely enjoy tubing, wakesurfing, wakeboarding and waterskiing in the Newberg Pool each summer. We value the natural beauty of our environment here in Oregon and want to conserve it for future generations.

These cherished Pacific Northwest pastimes support $1.6 billion in economic impact, nearly 6,000 jobs and more than 400 local businesses, including marinas, convenience stores, mechanics, restaurants, dealers and more. Unsubstantiated weight limits that force most of these families off the river will negatively impact our community and do nothing to make our river safer or healthier.

Increased education and enforcement of existing boating regulations combined with investments in site-specific research, bank management and improved fishway passage are the keys to a safer and healthier Willamette River.

Please support Oregon families and small businesses by opposing unnecessary overregulation of the Willamette River. The Newberg Pool should be safely shared.
